Tengoku.Me Q&A – Kit Sovereign

These are a few questions asked by @KitSovereign over at Twitter!

How will Tengoku.Me be controlled? (keyboard, mouse, whatnot)

- @KitSovereign

Right now both Mouse and Keyboard is supported. You can use left mouse like you would use the A button on Rhythm Heaven Fever. Right mouse acts as B.

As for keyboard, spacebar is currently also set to A. I have yet to find an appropriate button for B though, suggestions are welcome~!

Where are you pulling the games from? I don’t imagine you’ll be adding every single game (will you?), but can we expect to see some stuff from the DS or GBA Rhythm Heavens?

- @KitSovereign

I plan to have roughly 10 or-so of minigames from the Rhythm Tengoku series ported. You’ll definitely be seeing some GBA stuff, that’s for sure (especially since it’s my favourite of them all!). As for DS, I do believe the space shooting minigame is a good candidate for a port.

For any games that have pitched cues (Launch Party, BIT.TRIP, that sort of thing), will we be able to set the pitch of the cues?

- @KitSovereign

As in, make a single event have a different pitch than the rest? It’s not currently a feature but definitely something that could be added! (sorry if I misunderstood the question)

Will there be support for songs with changing BPM?

- @KitSovereign

Definitely!

Will there be support for songs that where the beat is divided into 3 instead of 2? (Think Donk-Donk, or Lockstep 2.)

- @KitSovereign

Yeah the beatmap editor supports a wide range of beat divisions.

If there is, will be able to fudge the cues? (A good example of this is what happens to Samurai Slice in RHWii Remix 8, where the cues are more “bouncy”, or Love Lizards in RHDS Remix 3.)

- @KitSovereign

By bounce, do you mean different distance between each sequence of an event? For instance, that the monsters in Samurai Slice make the calls at
0.0b, 0.7b and 1.0b
versus
0.0b, 0.5b and 1.0b? (b being beat)
No, that’s currently not a feature. BUT beatmaps can modify minigame entities (objects) and thus implement this feature!

Will we be able to change the appearance of a game, like the remixes do?

- @KitSovereign

Not currently but definitely a planned feature.

For games that have distracting visual elements that don’t otherwise affect gameplay (where things zoom in and out, where the lights turn off, when things fly across the screen, whatnot), will we be able to add those elements?

- @KitSovereign

Yes! Beatmaps can modify minigame entities, and even add new ones. So yes, entirely possible! :D

Thanks for the questions!

  • Hey, thanks so much for the answers! Oh man, I’m really excited to hear this, because these are all exactly the sort of things I wanted to see. : D

Hmm… I’m guessing that if spacebar was A, then Shift/Enter/Ctrl would be good candidates for B. That would keep things left/right, and maybe allow for some of the “fancier” GBA games, like Polyrhythm or Tramp & Pauline. I never got to play the GBA version, so I’m really excited to hear that some of the original games will make it!

By “pitched cues”, I mean rhythm cues that play some sort of note, and play different notes depending on the song. For example, in Glee Club, the chorusmen sing different notes. Or, in Launch Party, the “countdowns” are different notes. If there are any games like this in Tengoku.Me, will the user be able to set what notes play (by having MIDI cues, I guess), or will it just be one sound effect? Of course, if there aren’t any songs like that in the game, then the question doesn’t really matter, haha.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time out to answer my questions! I’m super excited for this! : D
