Hey there!
I’m Jonas Kærlev (Jonas Kaerlev), a 22 year old Danish software student.
I’ve been producing games and software for the internet for about ten years now. I use the internet as a method to distribute my stuff, get feedback, and improve.
All of the work I have published so far has been free and open-source when possible. I believe that contributing to ‘the greater good’ by sharing your work is a fundamental part to help everyone improve, thus providing better software. A lot of my own technology is based off other open-source work, which is why this is something I very strongly believe in.
History
I spent my early years making short fan tribute games, to franchises such as Nintendo. This was a big help as I did not have the resources at the time to make a game on my own. I couldn’t provide my own images, sound and characters, but I had the imagination to mix it all together. Thus fangames were a gateway not else wise possible. This directly helped me improve my abilities.
I later moved on to the Source Engine by Valve Software. It has enriched my perspective on modding and the modding communities. During my 3 years of working with the Source Engine, I have been shown that a community is successfully capable of providing more content than the developers themselves – proving that modding is a great tool (if not the greatest) to keep a game interesting and active. As a result I am a huge supporter of customizable games.
I have participated as a developer in the Mario Kart: Source Source Engine mod.
